About

Ydun is the work of James Barclay, a developer and systems thinker based in Sweden.

Background

Third-generation business. Grew up in a family-owned manufacturing operation in Western Sydney. Learned early how businesses actually run: production flow, logistics, and the cost of inefficiency.

Twenty years in hospitality across Sydney and Stockholm. In Sydney, front of house at top-tier restaurants, delivering effortless service in high-pressure systems. In Stockholm, running daily operations at the city's best live music venues. New problems every night, no playbook.

Currently running Rock and Roll Services, handling large-scale events, international tours, and major festivals. Complex interconnected systems with hard deadlines and no second chances.

Entered tech in 2011 through the Founder Institute. Years on the business development and architecture side. Mapping how interconnected systems work, where they break, what makes them resilient. Decades of user-facing work built cognitive empathy for how people actually use things. Not just how systems work, but how they get used. Now building directly, connecting technologies where two plus two equals five.

Approach

Principles-based builder. Test-driven, documentation-first. Using AI workflows as a complement, not a crutch.

Six years in decentralised and verifiable systems. Contributing to the Tauri ecosystem. Focused on where the technology actually gets used: verification, infrastructure, regulation and compliance.
